This artwork is part of my series entitled, “Inner Landscape”, which depicts our internal emotions and energies through symbolism. I made this artwork with the intention of bringing healing energy to a friend of mine. The piece focuses on the lower part of the female torso because it contains so much, from our digestive and reproductive systems to our centers of nervousness and fear. Many of my female friends suffer from fertility issues, endometriosis, fibroids, eating disorders, and a general disconnection or contempt for their bellies. It’s a place that needs a lot of attention and self-care. My figure is also holding her heart, an area of the body which holds emotion, love and power. How can we bring our heart energy into our lower abdomen?
The pansies are nostalgic for me.It’s the first flower I grew as a child and it reminds me of home, comfort and safety. I recently moved my family into my childhood home into the Echo Park neighborhood of Los Angeles, CA. Even after many years, much of the house remains the same,, from the turquoise tiles in the kitchen to the trees in the yard. Ever since I moved here in 2018, I've been attracted to the color teal and its variants. It’s only fitting that this nostalgic and comforting color found its place as the background for this print, surrounding Teresa.
